Male Baboon yawns on sentry duty – look at those teeth!
Chacma Baboons (Papio ursinus) are the largest non-human primates in southern Africa. They are highly gregarious, social animals that live in troops of about 15 to 100. All males of breeding age are dominant over females, but males have a strict rank order within the troop. Baboons are omnivorous, eating a wide range of plant and animal foods. This troop was on the edge of the Nyamarhi Spring in northern Kruger Park, feeding, grooming and with the youngsters playing. This dominant male was sitting elevated on a log watching for danger while other troop members fed quietly. He yawned, showing his formidable canine teeth.
