Lucky tourists captured the rare sight of a giraffe giving birth during a safari tour in South Africa.

The clip, captured on July 2, shows an adult giraffe delivering a calf at Kruger National Park.

During a recent safari in the Kruger National Park, we came across one of the most astonishing and rare sight of a female giraffe giving birth in the African wild. Majority of the time the African wild is associated with the battle for survival and death by predators. To witness new life born into this world in such a hostile environment is incredibly fascinating and hardly ever seen while on safari. This particular birth took over 2 hours and we were fortunate enough to witness the end of this miracle. Giraffes are the tallest land mammals on the planet and give birth standing up. The video shows how much pushing is involved in the birth process. A new-born giraffe weighs a hundred kilograms and it exits the birth canal head and front feet first. The new-born giraffe then suddenly comes out for a long and unceremonious drop to the ground of over a meter. This severs the umbilical cord and helps the calf take its first breaths. After spending over twenty years in the African bush this was our very first experience and definitely a once in a lifetime experience.
