Dramatic footage shows how an entire road was turned into a raging river that blocked off an entire village.

The flood water with heavy currents surged through homes and roads in Rizal, Philippines, yesterday (August 12).

Locals were left stranded unable to cross the road as the deadly torrent gushed in front of them.

The Philippines capital region Metro Manila on red alert as thousands evacuated their homes because of flooding over the weekend.

Tropical Storm Karding (Yagi) already left the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday morning, August 11, but the steady flow of rain continued because of the southwest monsoon until August 13.

18 evacuation centers are set up as a response to the 4,736 families or about 21,103 individuals affected.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on August 12 raised red alert status on the region's affected areas including towns near the Marikina and Pasig rivers.

A red alert status means that all NDRRMC personnel must be on duty 24/7 to respond to calamities.

"There are no reported casualties yet. I hope it stays that way,'" says Edgar Posadas, NDRRMC spokesperson.
