Rescue boats carry families to safety during Philippines floods
This is the dramatic moment rescue boats carried families to safety during severe flooding in the Philippines as Typhoon Wipha battered the region.
Footage shows Philippine Coast Guard teams retrieving distressed residents and helping them board inflatable rafts in Apalit, Pampanga, on July 23.
Coast Guard personnel navigated chest-deep floodwaters alongside members of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
In total, 40 individuals and several pets were transported to an evacuation centre, where they are expected to receive government assistance.
Floods from the torrential rains in the aftermath of Wipha caused chaos in the capital, Manila. More than 60,000 people have been evacuated from their homes and at least seven people have been killed.
The Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said several residents are still missing in the deluge.
