Footage shows children using a large plastic boat today (Mon) to get around their village after heavy rain caused floods that swamped their homes.

The residential area in Santa. Maria, Bulacan, Philippines was submerged in water after the continuous rains brought by storm Karding (Yagi) on August 12.

''This is what happened to our place. Even our comfort rooms are under the flood,'' said local Caroline Marco.

Philippines capital region Metro Manila is currently on red alert as thousands evacuated their homes because of flooding as high as 15 feet over the weekend.

Tropical Storm Karding (Yagi) alreadt left the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday morning, August 11, but the steady flow of rain continued because of the southwest monsoon until August 13.

18 evacuation centers are set up as a response to the 4,736 families or about 21,103 individuals who are affected by the Marikina River overlow alone.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on August 12 raised red alert status on the region's affected areas including towns near the Marikina and Pasig rivers.

A red alert status means that all NDRRMC personnel must be on duty 24/7 to respond to calamities.

"There are no reported casualties yet. I hope it stays that way. The storm surge" says Edgar Posadas, NDRRMC spokesperson.
