A driver battled to save a stranded vehicle as severe flooding swamped parts of the Philippines during Typhoon Wipha's onslaught.

Footage captures Romualdo wading through murky, chest-deep floodwaters in Paranaque, Metro Manila, on July 22, as he struggles to reach an SUV that had been left almost fully submerged in the deluge.

As he approaches the vehicle, the water appears to deepen further, rising close to neck level.

Romualdo said: 'Oh! It's actually deep!'

After briefly checking the SUV and confirming that no one was inside, he turned back and walked away before the video ended.

Floods from the torrential rains in the aftermath of Wipha caused chaos in the capital, Manila. More than 60,000 people have been evacuated from their homes and at least seven people have been killed.

The Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said several residents are still missing in the deluge.
