The world famous courier service DHL experienced a slight hiccup as five of their vehicles crashed in a bumper-to-bumper pile-up near Stuttgart Airport last Thursday (January 31).

It was reported that the group of Mercedes Sprinter vans were driving through the airport tunnel, when traffic in front of the convoy came to an abrupt stop causing the front two vans to initially crash.

The collision caused a domino effect as three more vans from the parcel service then crashed into the stuck pair from behind.

In total, the cost of the damage was close to 50,000 euros with two vehicles having to be towed from the scene.

One 24-year-old from the vehicle ahead of the DHL caravan was taken to hospital for minor injuries.

A total of five damaged vehicles with about 50,000 euros damage are the result of a collision on Thursday morning on the B 312 between Bernhausen and Plieningen.

A 26-year-old parcel service driver drove around 8.15 clock with his Mercedes Sprinter on the main road in the direction of Plieningen. When he was in the airport tunnel, he realized too late that the vehicles stopped in front of him due to traffic and collided with the vehicle standing in front of him.

Then three more transporters were pushed on each other. All vehicles were Mercedes Sprinter of the same parcel delivery service. Only the 24-year-old driver of the vehicle directly in front of the cause of the accident was slightly injured and went into medical treatment on his own. The other drivers between the ages of 19 and 28 remained uninjured. Two of the vehicles had to be towed.

Because the lane had to be closed in the direction of Plieningen during the accident recording, there were significant traffic obstructions.
