Too close for comfort – a huge Bull Elephant and a Kombi

African Elephants (Loxodonta africana) are huge – males may be up to four metres (13 feet) at the shoulder and weigh up to 6,300 kilograms (6.2 tons). Bull Elephants sometimes decide to stand in the road, preventing vehicles from passing them. It is foolhardy to try to squeeze past – sometimes this angers the Elephant, and it may attack the car causing severe damage to the vehicle and even injury or death to the occupants. The driver of this Kombi van was cautiously passing this huge old bull Elephant on a dirt road near Lake Mankwe in Pilanesberg National Park in South Africa. The Elephant didn’t seem bothered at first, but then moved closer to the Kombi. The driver accelerated to get out of its way, so I had to stop videoing the scene.
