A massive fire broke out at a chemical storage facility near the iconic Howrah Bridge in Kolkata city, the capital of eastern India's West Bengal state.

The incident took place on June 8.

Visuals showed thick smoke rising from the facility, located near Jagannath Ghat, a flower market and a hotspot for photographers.

Reports said at least 20 fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the blaze is under control. However, the operation is still on.

The Kolkata Traffic Police Department announced through its Twitter handle that the adjacent Strand Bank Road has been closed and has urged commuters to avail the alternative routes.

No casualties have been reported so far.
