Vehicles plough through roads submerged in a snow-like toxic froth amid incessant rains in southern India.

Video filmed on August 8 in Coimbatore city in Tamil Nadu state was near the location of many fabric dyeing units, which the filmer claims is what is being released into the river causing the pollution.

The froth not only affects the quality of the groundwater, but also causes skin allergies and respiratory ailments.

A video has emerged of roads covered with snow like toxic froth, amid incessant rains in southern India.

Visuals filmed on Aug. 8 from Coimbatore city in Tamil Nadu state, shows cotton-like froth spilt on roads, disrupting road traffic.

Vehicles are seen ploughing through the froth-filled road.

The froth, rising from Noyyal river in Coimbatore, is nothing but poisonous contamination of pollutants degrading not only the groundwater but also causing skin allergies and respiratory ailments.

The Noyyal river rises from the Vellingiri hills in the Western Ghats in Tamil Nadu and enters Coimbatore through the Chithirai Chavadi dam before finally draining into the Kaveri River at Noyyal, in Karur district.

The river is surrounded by many fabric dyeing units. The effluents from these units are released into the river causing much pollution.

In recent days, Coimbatore has received heavy rainfall leading to a rapid increase in water levels of the river. This has resulted in much frothing of the river.

However, this is not the first time that such instances of formation of froth have been reported.

Earlier in July 2018, visuals emerged of froth being formed on roads in Coimbatore.

The residents of this area have filed repeated complaints with the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB), but no effective measures have been put in place yet.

In 2011, the High Court had ordered the shut down of nearly 700 dyeing units but no data has been provided on that front either.

Again in 2017, when the situation of the frothing of this lake was highlighted, the then state Environment Minister KC Karuppannan had passed a statement claiming that the froth in the river was caused due to the soaps used by people while bathing.

Meanwhile, heavy rains lashed Coimbatore on Aug. 8, inundating low-lying areas, raising considerably the water inflow in four reservoirs and causing minor damages across the city.
