South African women from different backgrounds on Saturday voiced their opinions on the recent spate of violence directed at women.

The women were attending an event called Empowerher 2019 at the Seven Sister Vineyards in Stellenbosch.

President Cyril Ramaphosa was forced to address to the nation on Thursday after thousands of protesters demanded action be taken after a string of recent killings of women.

Calling gender-based violence "a crime against humanity", Ramaphosa said the government was reviewing laws on domestic violence and sexual offences to prioritise the needs and interests of survivors.

There were wide scale protests in South Africa in the past few days as women took took to the streets to demand that government enact stricter legislation with regards to femicide and gende based violence.
