Elephants enjoy 'jumbo feast' at national park in northern India
In a fascinating event, elephants at a northern Indian National Park enjoyed a 'jumbo feast', wherein the animals were administered with meals of their choices.
Visuals of the incident show officials feeding bananas to an elephant calf during the three-day annual health camp at the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve that lies between Lakhimpur Kheri and Bahraich districts of Uttar Pradesh state.
The event took place on Sept. 8.
Dudhwa Tiger Reserve houses more than 20 elephants and the officials decided to make the final day of the three-day health camp a special day for them, by providing them with a meal of their choice.
Prior to the feast, the elephants underwent a health check-up by a team of experts from Assam and the World Wildlife Federation (WWF). The elephants were also vaccinated to protect them from various diseases.
A special colourful camp was made for the elephants and they were also decorated for the party.
The tuskers sported garlands and their trunks too were decorated to make them look better for the party.
Fruits and vegetables, including cucumber, banana, pineapple and bottle guard were on the platter for the pachyderms.
The national park staff also enjoyed the event and took selfies with the decorated elephants. Some of the officials fed them by hand.
Apart from elephants, Dudhwa Tiger Reserve is also home to tigers, leopards, Asiatic black bears, sloth bears, Swamp deer, rhinoceros, cheetal, hog deer, barking deer, sambar, wild boar and hispid hare.
