Forest officials in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand have made a joint effort to ensure water supply for animals to prevent them from migrating to neighbouring provinces.

Visuals captured at the Chillawali range of Rajaji National Park on April 9 shows an elephant herd gleefully playing in the waters of a man-made reservoir.

According to reports, it had become essential to create this reservoir as the animals began to move towards the forests of neighbouring Uttar Pradesh state in search of water.

The whole operation took about a month’s time and incurred Rs.12 lakhs (USD 15,801, GBP 12,662) in expenditure as they used several small pipes to siphon water from nearby water bodies.

This initiative by the forest officials is expected to prevent unnecessary migration by the elephants during the summer season.
