A mom and son were killed after falling from a tethered balloon in eastern China during the country's national holidays.

The terrifying video, shot in the city of eastern China's Yantai on October 1, shows the balloon floating away after the tether attached snapped.

The 31-year-old woman and her three-year-old son reportedly fell to their deaths.

Five people who were involved in the incident were arrested by the police. The case is in further investigation.

10月1日上午，烟台开发区马家沟景区一可乘坐游客的气球固定钢缆脱落，气球失控在空中破裂，致两名游客坠亡。接警后，我局迅速组织人员赶赴现场，当场控制五名涉事人员。经调查，该气球经营业主涉嫌重大责任事故罪，目前已依法对犯罪嫌疑人采取强制措施。案件正在进一步调查中。另据应急管理局调查获悉，遇难的是31岁女士和3岁男童。
