Footage shows the moment doctors had to cut open a woman's throat to remove a stuck fish bone that had been stuck for a week.

The 46-year-old mother was eating soup with her family when the bone lodged in her neck in n Nakhon Si Thammarat, southern Thailand, on November 8.

She ignored it at first as she thought that it would be swallowed when she ate more rice. But after a week it was still there and she suffered an agonising sore throat every day.

The patient went to the hospital last Friday (15/11) afternoon where the doctors performed a 3D scan of her throat and found the thick fish bone that was one and a half inches long.

Footage from doctor Arak Wongworachat shows how he inserted an endoscope in her throat and tried to get the fish bone out but it was stuck to deep.

The doctor had to cut open the woman's throat so he could use tweezerspinch the fish bone and pluck it from her throat before she was stitched back up again.

The doctor said that he wants this case to be an example for people to be more careful when eating fish and suggested that ignoring stuck bones would only make the problem worse.

He said: "The patient ignored the fish bone for a week before she came to me with an intolerablepain in her throat.

"I want to advise everyone to be more careful when eating fish and if anybody accidentally swallows a bone, they should see a doctor immediately because ignoring it only makes it worse."
