A number of Indonesian residents in the tourist city of Bukittinggi, West Sumatra attempt to reject the arrival 168 Chinese tourists by blocking the exit of the Novotel hotel, as fears surrounding the coronavirus grow.

Footage filmed on Monday (January 27) shows tourists from Yunan province, China prepare to leave Bukittinggi on their tour bus at 8 am.

Rafles, one of the group's tour guides, said the group arrived at Minangkabau International Airport, Indonesia on Sunday (January 26), having passed health checks at the airport.

According to local reports, on Sunday afternoon four tour buses carrying Chinese tourists arrived in Bukittinggi and immediately travelled to their hotel. After local objection, the tourism office, hotel manager and police agreed that the tourists should not leave the hotel until Monday.

"The tourists are not allowed out of the hotel and are not allowed to make a tourist visit in Bukittinggi. And tomorrow morning the tourists will leave Bukittinggi," said Public Relations of Bukittinggi-Agam Ulama, Yulhendri

According to local reports, The Tanah Datar regional government has canceled plans for the arrival of 150 more tourists from China after widespread objection.

"I got information from the Tourism Office because of the many rejections in the Tanah Datar community, so the arrival of Chinese tourists was canceled," said Head of Public Relations and Protocol of Tanah Datar District Yusrizal on Monday (January 27).

Indonesian reject the visit of Chinese tourists as worry of the coronavirus

Worry of coronavirus, a number of residents in the tourist city, Bukittinggi, West Sumatra, Indonesia rejected the arrival of tourists from China by blocking the exit of the hotel in front of where the tourists stay.

In video filmed on Monday 27 January, 168 tourists from Yunan province, China who stayed at the Novotel hotel were preparing to leave the hotel.

Rafles, one of the group's tour guides, said the group arrived at Minangkabau International Airport, Indonesia on Sunday 26 December.

According to Rafles, when these tourists left their country and arrived in Indonesia, all had passed the health check.

But when they arrived in the Bukittinggi on Sunday night they got a rejection from local residents to block the hotel exit, forbidding tourists to leave the hotel with the reason to anticipate the spread of the coronavirus.

"Rejection of visits by local residents is reasonable as the virus is indeed dangerous, even though they have been declared ready and healthy. Fortunately, until now no group member complained," Rafles said.

At the end of the video, the rejection on Sunday night continued until Monday morning.

Local residents monitor the movement of Chinese tourists so as not to leave the hotel, until all groups are confirmed to leave the city on Monday at 8 am.

On the way, Rafles reported that they were again rejected when visiting Singkarak Lake and the Cow Race attraction in Batusangkar.

The group finally decided to go to Padang with the possibility of returning to their home countries as soon as possible.
