A man demonstrating a unique traditional serving skill while collecting plates of food at a wedding ceremony in West Sumatra, Indonesia.

The man, identified as Basri Malin, is seen acting as a “tukang tatiang,” a traditional Minangkabau skill in which servers carry or arrange multiple plates of food on one arm, commonly seen in Padang-style restaurants and traditional events.

In the footage, Malin is able to carry up to ten large plates filled with dishes on his left arm, while holding two additional plates in his right hand in a single trip. He said the number can be even higher when carrying smaller plates.

“I can carry a maximum of 10 large plates, and between 15 and 17 small plates at once. I used to work as a waiter at a Padang restaurant,” Malin said.

The video filmed during a traditional wedding ceremony in Nagari Lawang, Matur District, Agam Regency, West Sumatra, Indonesia, on Saturday, January 10, 2026. I filmed the footage with my mobile phone.
