A truck toppled over after trying to take a sharp bend while being chased by police.

The lorry carrying construction debris sparked panic after it sped through a police checkpoint in Bangkok, Thailand last Monday (Feb 10) afternoon.

Officers ordered the truck to stop but it drove away, sparking a chase with several motorcycle outriders.

As the driver came down a bridge he tried to negotiate a sharp bend to the left. However, the truck's suspension could not handle the cornering and it toppled over, landing on its side.

Officers surrounded the vehicle and dragged out the driver.

They said that the trucker, Duen Maratcha, 37, was arrested at the scene after confessing he had recently taken two amphetamine pills to ''stay awake'' on the roads.

Police also allegedly found opium leaves in the truck and he was taken into custody.

Passing motorist Nattapol Phruekngern said the chase lasted for around three miles before the truck crashed.

Nattapol said he followed the pursuit and filmed it because he wanted to help the officers catch the driver.

He said: "I followed them because I thought I could assist the police with arresting the suspicious driver. It was hard to believe that he tried to run away from the police."
