Residents of a neighbourhood in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh attacked police and health workers who had gone to take family members of a COVID-19 patient who had died, to a quarantine facility.

The incident took place in Moradabad city of the eponymous district on April 15.

Visuals show a group of men pelting stones at the duty-bound officials.

While the men ventured out of their homes, breaking the lockdown norm, the women and children indulged in the activity from the rooftops.

According to reports, around 150 people were involved in the attack during which police jeeps were also vandalised.

Taking cognisance of the incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said those involved would be booked under the National Security Act.
