Hundreds took part in a land invasion protest in Cape Town's northern suburbs on Sunday (July 26).

Protesters set alight barricades in the middle of a street and caused damage at a local race track. They also vandalised traffic lights and road signs, according to Newsflare's filmer.

Local authorities have taken to removing informal housing structures, resulting in the protests.

Hundreds of land invaders were dispersed by police after they invaded a open tract of land in the northern suburbs of cape town earlier today.

The land invaders turned to barricading streets and vandalised a motor racing track opposite the vacant site. Traffic lights and road signs were also vandalised.

The western cape is currently under a grip of land invasions as poverty stricken families struggle for a place to stay.
