In a heart-stopping incident, a dog badly covered in tar was rescued by animal rescue organization 'Animal Rahat' in Solapur, western India.

The hard to watch video shows the dog's incredible transformation from rescue to recovery.

The dog, Champi, was stuck on a pavement when a member of the animal rescue organizaton spotted it and came to its rescue.

The rescuers were then in a race against time as Champi was badly tarred, and they had to act fast to save the life of the vulnerable canine.

Champi was sedated first and taken to a safe place, where the tar was melted from its body using vegetable oil and coconut oil.

It took first-responders almost four days to remove all the tar from Champi's body, but it brought the dog back to a happy and healthy condition.
