This is the heartwarming moment three friends teamed up to rescue a kitten trapped in a canal following heavy rain in Malaysia.

Faizal, Amru Akib, and Ridzuan were waiting for their car being repaired at a nearby garage in Alor Setar, Kedah when they heard the struggling moggy crying on October 4.

The shivering cat was perched on tiny rock while water was flowing all around it in the canal. It was too afraid to move in case it was washed away by the water, which was flowing fast after recent rainstorms.

Faizal said: "We went to the grassy field in front of the repair shop and heard the cat crying for help."

The lads looked for discarded materials and found a rubber rope and tried to reach the trapped cat.

However, it was too short so one of the brave men volunteered to hang upside down from huge pipe over the canal.

He pulled the creature by its collar while his friends held his feet so he would not fall on the dirty water.

Faizal and his friends released the kitten onto the nearby grass verge as the collar indicated it was a pet and the believed it would have a home nearby.

He said: "My friend's white shirt was stained with rust but it's okay since we saved the cat."
