A man in central India was lifted 40-foot-high by a crane to rescue a cow that became stuck in marshy land after it grazed beside a pond covered by weeds and grass.

The incident occurred on October 21 and was reported when a passerby in Jhalwar town saw the cow hanging on for dear life.

The passerby called Goputra Sena, a non-profit animal rescue organisation led by Vinit Torwal, who travelled to the scene.

The cow was staying afloat by balancing on barely visible plants. Rescuers soon realised that the plants were too fragile to carry their weight as well.

Torwal said: "I stuck a pole inside and found that the water was 18-foot-deep. To play it safe, we called a crane to pull out the cow."

Torwal was attached to the bucket of the crane using a piece of fabric and lifted 40 feet into the air to reach the stranded animal.

When he was unable to fit a harness around the cow, Torwal enlisted the help of a team member, and together they succeeded in lifting the cow to safety.
