A brave animal rescuer carried away a huge monitor lizard while riding pillion on a motorcycle after capturing it in a village in Thailand.

Matana Wongsuna, 63, was shocked after finding the reptile hiding in the makeshift fence of her house in Ang Thong province on November 4.

She was worried that the reptile could attack the children and animals in the village so she called the animal rescuers for help.

The female reptile handler arrived with another rescue volunteer to evacuate the animal from the property.

They searched for it and slowly threw a piece of cloth on the lizard's head to cover its eyes.

The professional rescuer then grabbed it with bare hands from the pile of rusty roof and wood which served as the property's fence.

She tied its legs and mouth using a rope with the help of a partner before they drove away on a motorcycle.

After making sure that the ropes were tight and secured, she carried the lizard with her at the back of a Honda Wave motorcycle before riding pillion on her rescue partner.

The reptile catcher said: "We did not arrive at the scene by truck, so we needed to ride a motorcycle to carry the wild animal to the river where we released it."

The wild animal was untied at the riverbanks and immediately jumped into the water.
