Elderly elephant becomes a hit after growing impressive fringe
A 70-year-old rescue elephant has become a hit thanks to her unusually long fringe.
The jumbo, named, Yai Boonma has started sprouting the 'bangs' after retiring at the Mae Taeng Elephant Camp in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
She gained popularity on the Internet last month after her pictures emerged showing the long dark brown locks.
Most of the camp's visitors now make special requests to visit Yai Boonma's enclosure
Footage shows the friendly old jumbo, whose name means "Grandma Boonma" in the local language, waving her trunk in front of a mother and his two sons who visited the camp on August 27.
The camp's staff said the rescue elephant's hair started growing suddenly just two years ago as a sign of her ageing.
Mae Tang spokesman Supattra Boonreung said: "Boonma has been at the camp for 35 years after spending her youth working in a logging operation. She gave birth to one daughter, who has since sired three grandchildren.
''Her hair has only grown like this recently. It's very cute and has made her very popular.''
Yai Boonma has a very specific taste for mud baths and likes to spend hours soaking in clay every day. The minerals are believed to have nourished her hair and helped it to grow into the impressive bob style cut she has become known for.
After years of carrying logs down the mountain for workers and giving tourists rides and shows, shes now enjoys retirement and sees visitors daily.
