Russian tourist confronted over 'creepy' secret Meta glasses videos of sex workers
This is the moment a Russian tourist was confronted by furious Thai ladyboys for allegedly recording them using the Meta Ray-Ban glasses.
The holidaymaker, who goes by the online name 'yarigrech', posts videos recorded without consent of sex workers in Thailand's nightlife strips. Often, he asks if they are 'real women'.
He was talking to several ladyboys in the Sukhumvit Soi 4 area of Bangkok, Thailand, on November 22, when he was confronted by Woranat Arayachot, 28, whom he had spoken with before.
Footage shows the shocked vlogger caught off-guard as Woranat had seen his videos and demanded that he hand over his smart glasses, while calling the police.
She said: 'Show me your glasses. You posted me before on Instagram. I remember. I remember you.'
The YouTuber repeatedly denied the accusations as Woranat's companions called the police. But before the cops could arrive, the tourist had already slipped away.
Woranat said the man was a 'bully' who allegedly made fun of transgender sex workers by posting them on social media without their consent.
She said: 'There might be several people using this account because the filmers in many videos have different accents and seem to take turns filming. They have been doing this for almost a year without being caught.
‘On that day, I was lucky to notice a camera because I realised they were wearing glasses with a camera — exactly this brand and appearance, black glasses with a clear lens on the side.
‘They approached people asking whether they are women or transgender, and some transgender people might reply that they are women.
‘They posted these videos on Instagram, where most comments came from foreigners from their home countries, and most of it was just plain bullying.
‘Some victims were publicly shamed as they hide their work from their families, but this YouTuber posted the videos, causing their families to find out and leading to mental health issues.
'When he spoke with me, I was only visiting and drinking beer in Soi Cowboy. He asked whether I was a woman or a transgender woman.
‘When I saw him again, I could not assault or detain him because I was afraid it would ruin Thai women's reputation. I could only buy time until the police arrived.
‘When I turned back, I saw he had already run out of my sight.
‘Another issue is that I did not have sufficient evidence because they have several accounts. But I am sure that the side of their glasses contained a camera. The most I could do was to break it.
‘I want everybody to help report his account. Do not allow this kind of foreigner to profit from Thai girls' suffering. Sex workers deserve privacy while they are working.'
Yarigrech runs several social media accounts on which he publishes videos of himself appearing to proposition sex workers in Southeast Asia.
