Owner celebrates a baby shower ceremony for his dog in India
A dog owner in Thanjavur, India, celebrates a baby shower function for his pregnant dog to show their love on Wednesday (November 11).
The dog was decorated with a silk dress and fruits are being offered to it. Later the relatives of the owner came and applied vermilion and the Sandel powder to the dog on the front paws and the cheeks.
Then bangles are worn to it on the front paws later it was given a hat and a mask for the final look...
The owner of the dog says we see her (dog)as a part of our family we do the same to our family women when they are pregnant and likewise we did the same to the dog also.
Valaikaappu, is an Indian tradition popular in the South Indian states carried out during the 6th, 7th, or 8th month of a woman's pregnancy.
It is performed at the birth of each child. This ritual is similar to a baby shower performed in Western cultures.
A bangle ceremony will also be held to decorate the mother with colorful bangles, mainly by the girl's family members. It gives confidence to the pregnant women and also increases her mental strength, with supportive gathering members blessing the child and mother for normal delivery.
The same ritual was celebrated for the dog in the Thanjavur District of Tamilnadu.
