This is the heartwarming moment an adopted Dutch woman was reunited with her birth mother in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Footage captured on January 27 shows mother and daughter embracing in the Salem district after more than two decades apart.

Mum Amutha gave birth to a baby girl in 1996 but was forced to give her up for adoption due to their perilous financial situation.

The daughter, who preferred not to reveal her name, was adopted by a couple from the Netherlands but always hoped to one day meet her biological parents.

Unfortunately, her biological father died several years ago but her adopted parents agreed for her to travel to Tamil Nadu to visit her birth mother.

Despite the language barrier, the two shared many tender moments including cutting a cake to celebrate the occasion.
