This is the heartbreaking moment a loyal dog continued to guard its owner's home after being separated with them during Typhoon Vamco in the Philippines.

Volunteer rescuer Jenny Arteta brought relief goods to residents after the severe flood has receded in Guinobatan, Albay province on November 17.

The team was walking to the evacuation centre when they passed by a dog standing in front of a house alone.

The severely damaged house was partially submerged under three-feet deep mud that was left after the water had subsided.

The poor animal did not move an inch while looking left and right as if it was waiting for its beloved family to arrive.

Jenny said she thinks the dog may have been separated from its owners who retreated to the nearby evacuation centre when the floodwater rose.

She said: "I felt sorry for him because what he felt at that time also reflected in his eyes. But in spite of that, he didn't leave the place and guarded it despite the condition."

The rescuer added that it is possible that the owners come back to feed it from to time as it did not look starving or sick.

Typhoon Vamco, known locally as Ulysses, killed at least 63 people in the Philippines before moving eastwards and making landfall in Vietnam.
