Coast Guard officers waded through waist-deep floods to evacuate residents in the Philippines.

Footage shows officers pulling a lifeboat around a submerged street to float locals to safety in Pampanga on July 24.

Stranded families could not travel to evacuation centres and were assisted by teams doing search and rescue in Dreamland and Camella subdivisions.

Rescue operations continued throughout the day with more families taken to safety.

The rescue took place amid severe weather conditions brought by Typhoon Co-may, locally known as Emong.

The storm made landfall over nearby province of Agno, Pangasinan, at 10:40 pm on Thursday, with maximum sustained winds of 120 km/h and gusts reaching 165 km/h.

Co-may is the strongest typhoon to impact the region in the past 16 years.
