Mount Ile Lewotolok kept erupting as night fell on Indonesia's Lembata Island on Sunday 28 November.

Footage showed fire and hot lava being ejected from the top of the volcano into a dark night sky.

The mountain, which is also often called Mount Ile Ape, is on the island of Lembata in East Nusa Tenggara.

The Volcanological Survey of Indonesia (abbreviated as PVMBG in Indonesian) of the Ile Lewotolok Mountain Observation Post said the eruption began at 5:57am local time.

The ash column rose to about 500 metres above the summit. Ash rained down on nearby villages.
