Air Customs officials seized gold worth Rs 15 lakh (USD 20335) from a passenger's brassiere from an airport in southern India's Tamil Nadu on December 6. The seizure took place at Chennai International Airport.

Visuals show the retrieved gold paste wrapped in black adhesive tape laid out by the Customs officials.

The lady passenger, Jothi Chinraj aged 38, who arrived by FlyDubai Flight FZ 8517 from Dubai was intercepted at the exit by an alert intelligence officer while she was anxiously rushing through the green channel.

On being questioned, Chinraj gave evasive replies and was then searched for illegal items. Upon examination, her brassiere was found to be unusually heavy, which on being cut open revealed two packets of gold paste ingeniously concealed with black tape.

The gold paste recovered from the examination weighed 344 grams. On extraction, 295 grams of gold valued at Rs 15 lakh (USD 20335) was recovered and seized under the Customs Act. Further investigation is underway.
