Indonesian firefighters fell victim to a prank after receiving a fake call from an unknown man.

Footage filmed on today (December 20) shows 5 firefighters deployed to the location of the fire report in the Bukittinggi city, West Sumatra province.

For tens of minutes at the site, firefighters didnt find any burning houses or buildings.

Local also confirmed that there is no fire incident in the area. Ridwan Kalek (24 yo), a local resident, suspected that firefighters were prank victims after receiving a fake call.

"This is hoax, there is no fire here," Kalek added.

All fire trucks were withdrawn from the location, to return to their respective posts.

The head of the operational division of the Bukittinggi City Fire Service, Susilo, said the incident began when officers on duty at the main post received a call at around 08.30 p.m.

Callers in a convincing tone reported a house fire in the Ujung Bukik housing complex.

The duty officer responded after the second call by sending 5 fire trucks.

After arriving at the location, it turned out that the fake report, the officer together with the fire truck and ambulance returned to the post.

The officer hopes that the same incident will not happen again as it can be fatal.

False fire information will make officers have to confirm several reports by telephone before sending a fire team so that an actual fire-fighting effort will be carried out too late.
