Dramatic CCTV footage has emerged from China of a mother and toddler trapped on an escalator.

The footage was captured on a security camera at a busy railway station in Sichuan Province on Wednesday, during the peak of Spring Festival travel.

It shows a man chasing some luggage down the escalator and pushing the woman and her child at the bottom.

Both the two-year-old girl and her mother got their hands caught in a mechanism inside a gap at the foot of the escalator.

Firefighters spent 40 minutes dismantling the escalator to free the little girl’s hand and her mother’s forefinger.

According to local news reports, both mother and child were taken to hospital where they received treatment for their injuries.
