This is the moment police officers removed a six-foot python from a home in Mumbai on December 31.

Footage shows the reptile clinging to roof beams as an officer tries to get it down.

Locals then lend a hand and the officer manages to remove the python and is cheered by the large crowd which had gathered outside the home to watch.

The officer was identified as Murlidhar Jadhav from Kurla Police station.

The snake has now been handed over to the Forest Department.

The Indian rock python is not considered dangerous to humans and they rarely attack even when threatened.

They can grow as long as 9.8 feet or approximately 3 metres.

A six-foot-long python was saved and rescued from a household in western India's Maharashtra on December 31. The incident took place in Dharavi in Mumbai.

A video witnessing the incident features a python clung to the ceiling of a household. A cop immediately attains to the situation and tries to catch the reptile.

He then grabs its head by one hand and its tail by another and draws it down. The snake tries to coil around the officer's hand but is unable to move any further. Locals help the officer to extract the snake and cheer for him all along. An enormous crowd gets clustered in the region to catch a glimpse of the spectacle.

The police constable identified as Murlidhar Jadhav, from Kurla Police station rescued the six-foot-long Indian rock python.

He managed to capture the snake all by himself with a fractured leg amid the panic. His timely action ensured the safety of a family, and locals honored him for that. The reptile has now been handed over to the Forest Department.
