This is the remarkable moment a team of rescuers in northern India pulled a man alive form a tunnel after a devastating torrent of water deluged the area from a smashed dam.

Footage showed members of the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) singing as they haul the man to the surface in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand state.

Seemingly unharmed, the unidentified man celebrates his freedom by raising his arms aloft and jumping onto the ground.

The worker had reportedly become stuck in the tunnel as the floodwaters passed overhead.
