Tropical storms hit northern Thailand on Monday afternoon (April 26) as strong wind and rain moved across the country.

Footage shows the torrential weather blowing through Phetchabun province, where trees were uprooted and dozens of buildings damaged.

The district’s local school Niyom Sin Anuson was badly damaged by the wind with part of a roof and tiles torn from the building.

Officials are still in the process of estimating the damages to prepare for further assistance. They believe the storms are some of the worst in a decade.

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia and Indonesia are approaching their tropical monsoon rainy season. Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.
