Cape Flats Freeway closed, unrest continues in electricity protest

Traffic along the Cape Flats freeway was brought to a standstill and roads closed as a service delivery protest continued for the second day.

Residents of Wesbank took to the streets after their power was disrupted due to cable theft over the weekend, they maintain it is the responsibility of the City of Cape Town to ensure that power is delivered to homes. Cable theft is committed by predominantly drug addicts.

Alicia Andrews, a resident in the area says it is cold and uncomfortable without electricity. the Cape has been experiencing cold weather as winter arrives.

Wesbank is a low income area on the fringe of the Northern Suburbs in Cape Town.
