A man staying in a hotel next to the 12-storey apartment that collapsed on June 24 in Miami Beach explained his shock.

In the video, he explains that he is staying on the second floor of the hotel next door and states it the collapse was the "craziest thing I've ever heard in my life."

Fire and rescue crews are seen arriving at the scene.

According to reports, it is not known what caused the building named Champlain Towers South to collapse.

A rescue operation was underway today (June 24) after a building appeared to have collapsed in Miami Beach in the early hours of the morning.

Shocking footage shows the debris at a corner of Collins Avenue on 88th Street in Miami, Florida, as the emergency services arrived and shocked locals gathered at the scene.

Witnesses claim to have heard people screaming beneath the rubble during frantic efforts to free them from the the rubble of the building, believed to be a 12-storey apartment block named Champlain Towers South.
