A deadly spectacled cobra lunged at an official attempting to rescue the snake from the bottom of an 80-feet-deep well.

Footage from July 8 shows snake rescuer Nawaz Shaikh being lowered down into the watery pit where he attempted to capture the cobra.

The reptile repeatedly lunged at Shaikh but the official eventually managed to catch the snake.

Akash Jadhav of the Animal Rescue Society said: "This snake was unusually aggressive. It was also so long, Nawaz was within its striking distance while hanging helplessly mid-air. The depth of the well added to the risk and it was a very dangerous rescue.”

A full-grown Indian spectacled cobra fell into a 80-feet deep well near Ahmednagar in western India on July 9.

The farmer, who owned the well, called Animal Rescue Society, and rescuer Akash Jadhav went to save the cobra along with his team.

Team member Nawaz Shaikh went down the deep well with the help of a harness and found a stressed-out highly aggressive cobra hiding inside a crack in the wall.

As he tried to catch it, the loudly hissing snake tried to lunge at him, but lost its balance and fell into water.

Usually snakes try to flee from the rescuer, but this cobra kept moving aggressively towards Nawaz and tried to attack him several times. A veteran rescuer, Nawaz held his nerve and managed to catch the furious cobra.

It was hauled up and later released at a nearby forest.
