An endangered species, “Great Indian Hornbill” captured on camera in South India
Sighting these rare birds in the wild is a great joy. These birds can be seen in the deep jungles of Nilgiris, Western Ghats and in the forests along with the Himalayas. They are a sight to behold, with their large beaks and yellow casques that sit like helmets on their heads.
The species are listed as “Near threatened” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. It is believed that it has only few hundreds in their population left and a significant proportion of them are being found in Nilgiris.
“Sighting these birds out of the dense jungle is a very rare sight and this bird has been caught on camera just a great joy”, says the journalist who captured this video.
