As fears mount regarding COVID variants, Hong Kong rushes to the AniCom 2021 fair
The AniCom 2021 is an event taking place every year since 1999, reuniting fans of anime, games, toys and cosplaying in Hong Kong. This year, crowds could be seen queuing for the possibility of buying gaming cards, or bunching up at the stand of some cosplayers sporting revealing outfits.
Huge crowds could be seen also crowded outside the Hong Kong Convention Centre, waiting for access, this while social distancing measures in public have not been relaxed.
A stream of incoming "delta" variant COVID infections, mostly caught at the airport or while in quarantine has riled up the authorities who are focused on reaching the "zero COVID" goal set by China.
Despite this, AniCom had little visible social distancing and even had a tattoo shop set up by an energy drink brand.
