A rescuer freed a parrot that was choking on bird control netting attached to a high-rise apartment in Pune, western India.

The neighbours had called Saidas Kusal after hearing the bird crying out from a locked apartment.

Kusal, on July 22, climbed the terrace of the adjoining flat and climbed onto the balcony where the bird was trapped.

He then managed to cut free the parrot before feeding it tomato and giving it water.

"The wires were strangling the bird. So we decided to free it in the night itself without any delay. I am glad it ended well," said Kusal.

The bird was released into the wild the next day.

The distressed screams of the bird alerted nearby residents, who called rescuer Saidas Kusal.

The owner of the apartment had locked up his house and gone out of town. So, Saidas realised that it would be a challenge to approach the bird stranded at the 11th story apartment, hundreds of feet above ground.

He went to the terrace of an adjoining flat and climbed to the balcony where the parrot was trapped. He freed the poor bird by carefully cutting the wires that had tightened around its neck like a noose.

Seeing that the bird was exhausted, he gave it water and a tomato, which it fed with relish. As it was too weak to fly, Saidas took it home and released it the next day.

Saidas said: “The wires were strangling the bird. So we decided to free it in the night itself without any delay. I am glad it ended well.”
