A rescuer in northwestern India saved a tiny kitten recently that fell into a drainpipe.

Footage captured in Pune on December 31 showed animal expert Saidas Kusal sawing through the pipe and grabbing the terrified feline.

According to reports, the kitten was born on the terrace of the four-storey building and stumbled into the drainpipe.

Residents called Kusal after hearing its cries for help.

A quick checkup from a vet revealed that the kitten survived the ordeal without serious injury.

“The kitten was luckier than it looks. Below the ground, there is a pit to collect rainwater. If it had slipped any further, it could have possibly drowned. Here is a cat that has used up two of its lives," said Kusal.

A brave rescuer took a serious risk to save the life of a kitten after it fell into a drain pipe.

A cat had given birth to a litter of five kittens on the terrace of a four-storey building in Pune in western India.

On 31 December, one of the kittens strayed out when its mother wasn’t around and fell into a drain pipe that had been installed to discharge rainwater from the terrace.

Anxious residents called noted rescuer Saidas Kusal, who found that the kitten was stuck in the pipe about 8 to 10 feet below the terrace. He could hear its distressed cries and decided that there was no time to call the fire brigade as the poor animal was suffocating.

He lowered a ladder, which was secured by two colleagues, and climbed down to try to reach out to the kitten. Hanging mid air at a scary height, he tried to open the pipe, but the kitten slipped further down and fell all the way to the ground.

Saidas rushed down and cut open the pipe to pull out the kitten, which was in shock, but had survived the fall nevertheless. He cleaned it up and handed it over to its family. A quick checkup from a vet revealed that the kitten had survived its ordeal without any serious injury.

Saidas said: “The kitten was luckier than it looks. Below the ground there is a pit to collect rainwater. If it had slipped any further, it could have possibly drowned. Here is a cat that has used up two of its lives.”
