Hanging bridge collapses after being ravaged by flash floods in the Philippines
This is the shocking moment a hanging bridge collapsed after being ravaged by flash floods in the Philippines.
The structure – famous among trail bikers, joggers, and tourists – gave in after being hit by gushing water from an overflowing river in Pilar, Bataan province on July 31.
No one was reported hurt in the incident but some residents were stranded and were forced to stay in evacuation centres until the weather condition improved.
Resident Erika Magsino said: ‘It was a popular cycling destination here. Tourists also come to have picnics and selfies on the bridge but now it’s gone. Fortunately, no one was hurt and everyone was safe.’
The Philippines and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November. Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.
