Parked cars were submerged in dirty water after heavy rain caused a river to overflow in the Philippines.

Onlooker Angel Sy was on her way to work when she passed by kind workers pushing the vehicles as drivers struggled to move out of the deluge in Marikina City on August 2.

She said: ‘It’s a pity because the vehicles were damaged and I hope it would serve as a lesson to other drivers not to park their vehicles near the river especially when the weather is not good.’

Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected across the country due to the southwest monsoon, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

The Philippines and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November. Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.
