A group of angry people attacked a police headquarters in Nimboran district, Papua Province on Monday (August 2). This incident was triggered by a shooting carried out by a police officer, the Chief Police Brigadier from the Nimboran Police, against a young man named Fredrik Sem (aged 22).

According to the Indonesian Police, Fredrik Sem, the victim of the initial shooting, harassed the drivers of two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles by forcibly asking for money with threats. A number of police personnel who received reports of acts of thuggery came to the scene to secure Fredrik, but when he was about to be arrested, Fredrik attacked the police officer with a crowbar. The perpetrator was hit by a bullet and the collapsed. Fredrik 's family attacked the local police headquarters.
