Typhoon Chanthu brought heavy rain that drenched roads in northern Philippines as it grazed the country on its way to Taiwan on Friday morning (September 10).

Chanthu, which was previously designated a super typhoon, has slightly weakened but is still a formidable storm with maximum sustained winds of 195 km/h and gustiness of 240 km/h according to state weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The national weather agency warned of torrential rains and widespread floods in the Philippines’ northernmost islands. Storm Signal No. 3 has been raised in the provinces of Cagayan, Batanes, as well as the Babuyan Islands on Friday afternoon.

Chanthu is currently headed towards Taiwan and is forecasted to hit the country this weekend. Taiwan’s Central Weather Bureau has raised a sea warning as the typhoon approaches its southeast coast.
