As perfect spring weather woke the city, South Africa's Cape Town Cycle Tour took off with a hopeful feeling on Sunday 10 October.

Both professionals and amateurs dedicated their rides to those who died during the pandemic.

Nolan Hoffman took the mens title in a tight sprint toward the finish line as he clinched his fourth Cape Town Cycle Tour victory. Speaking after the race, Hoffman looked back at the last 18 months of the pandemic.

Premier of the Western Cape Allan Winde said the event is a kick start for the Western Cape, which has seen event and hospitality industry difficulties with the pandemic.

The Cape Town Cycle Tour, now in its 43rd year, is the first major event in the Cape since the onset of Covid-19 lockdowns.

The Cycle Tour normally sees 35,000 entries, but due to covid protocols only had 18,000 this year.
