Contract awarded to cut masts off SS Richard Montgomery shipwreck in the Thames off Kent, UK

Briggs Marine have been awarded a £4.6 million contract by the UK Gov to cut the masts off shipwreck SS Richard Montgomery in the Thames 1.5 miles north of Sheerness, Kent, according to the BidStats website which details public contracts.

The controversial ship sank in 1944 with 1400 tonnes of explosives still onboard and features in the plot of Sky's 'Cobra' political TV drama.

Footage of the masts at low tide today (October 15), with the mast removal work expected to be undertaken next year.
